The Dalmatian Coast offers a great escape for culture, beaches and hiking. For me, the wild southern coast around the Makarska Riviera was a real discovery. Well-maintained paths wind along the shore, with the scent of pine trees and salt in the air and constant views of the crystal-clear turquoise sea.
We walk along the coastline from Blato to Živogošće and hike back through the higher forested slopes, about 150 metres above sea level, with stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and the islands. It is a varied hike that takes about half a day if you take your time.
Just a short walk from Blato, there is a nice wild beach, Čelik Duba. It stands out with its crystal-clear turquoise water and lies in a little bay. Further on, you soon reach the village of Mala Duba. Off-season, you will find a very quiet village with no cafés open; for that, you have to hike another half an hour to Živogošće. This second part takes you along many small beaches and offers great views of the sea.
The way back starts with a somewhat steep climb until you are about 150 metres above sea level, and then continues more or less horizontally along the mountain slopes, with stunning views of the rocky Biokovo mountain range, which rises dramatically from the Adriatic coast to 1,155 metres above sea level.
