About Travel Pelican

Welcome to Travel Pelican, a travel blog for curious, independent travellers who love exploring the world by public transport, travelling light, and discovering places beyond the usual tourist routes. We believe that travel is not just about the places we visit, but also about the people we meet, the cultures we experience, and the perspectives we bring back into our everyday lives. By understanding each other a little better, we can help make the world a more open and welcoming place.

We also believe in keeping things simple. We travel with little luggage and only the things we truly need. In our favourite travel gear section, we share the practical items we wouldn’t want to leave home without.

Stan

Born in Kazakhstan and raised across different parts of the former Soviet Union, Stan grew up between cultures and very different ways of life. He lived in Moscow, spent part of his youth in Kyrgyzstan, and also experienced life in India, where his Family was connected to the steel industry. After studying International Relations in Kleve, Germany, he eventually settled in Switzerland with his family.

Growing up in different places left Stan with a lasting curiosity about the world and the people who live in it. He wants to understand not only what places look like, but also how people live, what shapes their everyday lives, and how they see the world around them. Travel gives him the opportunity to ask questions, exchange experiences, and discover perspectives that might otherwise remain unfamiliar.

Through Travel Pelican, he shares these discoveries, hoping to encourage others to look beyond familiar surroundings, approach different cultures with an open mind, and bring a little more understanding back into everyday life.

Vlad

Vlad grew up and lives in Kyrgyzstan, where his passion for photography goes hand in hand with his love of travel. He explores Central Asia, often venturing into remote areas far from the usual tourist routes. With his extensive knowledge of Kyrgyzstan’s history, culture, and traditions, he captures not only the country’s spectacular landscapes but also the stories and heritage behind them. Through his photographs and local knowledge, Vlad offers a closer look at a region that still holds many places waiting to be discovered.
